Here's a recap of our live coverage of tonight's Evanston City Council meeting.

The meeting is scheduled to begin about 10:40 p.m.

Meeting called to order at 10:42 p.m.

Open House Chicago ... Annie Coakley and Lisa Degliantoni describes program for this year. Last year Evanston was the third most visited community ... over 20K visitors. Most of the north shore sites are in Evanston. Community arts initiative "Evanston Made" to go along with the open house event this year. Also Oktoberfest event downtown this weekend.

Evanston Day of Caring ... this Saturday ... volunteer opportunities.

Public Comment

15 scheduled speakers .... 3 minutes each.

Several speakers supported the proposed Welcoming City Ordinance amendments.

Special orders of business

SP1 - Updating the welcoming city ordinance

Alderman Don Wilson, 4th Ward, moves amending as proposed during public comment to add "signed by a judge" to the warrant requirement.

Amendment approved unanimously.

Wilson moves introduction and suspension of rules to adopt the ordinance tonight.

Approved 9-0.

SP2 - Special legal cousel for the city clerk

Clerk Devon Reid says concerned about who has hiring and firing authority over employees in the clerk's office.

Motion is to hold to Oct. 16.

SP3 - 2017 End of year budget status

City manager says calling for a furlough day for city staff on Nov. 10.

Wilson asks to hold the Equity and Empowerment Commission until the next meeting.

Call of the wards

Wynne ... Ward meeting ...Thursday, Oct. 26, Lincoln School at 7 p.m.

Rainey ... concerned about not getting timely minutes of meetings. Says city clerk needs to perform the duties that every other clerk has performed in the past more than 30 years. Need to get minutes of one meeting before the next one.

Fleming... 7p Thursday at Levy Center.. joint 8th and 9th ward meeting.

Braithwaite ... ward meeting rescheduled until next month.

No executive session tonight.
