Chicago man charged with DUI after car hits tree

Evanston police say a 44-year-old Chicago man has been charged with driving under the influence after his car went off the road and hit a tree at 8:51 p.m. Wednesday in the 400 block of Sheridan Road.

Police Cmdr. Joseph Dugan says that after the car hit the tree, it came to rest against an apartment building.

The driver, Utarus C. Jackson, who was alone in the car, had multiple injuries, none of which were life threatening, Dugan says, and was transported to St. Francis Hospital

In addition to the misdemeanor DUI charge, Dugan says, Jackson was ticketed for driving too fast for conditions, driving on the sidewalk, driving without lights and not wearing a seatbelt.

He's scheduled to appear in Skokie court on June 27 at 10:30 a.m.
