Cameras to roll at hot dog spot

Bill SmithThursday, Jul. 10, 2008, at 6:35 am

Gus Paschalis of Evanston's Wiener and Still Champion reports that a crew from the Food Network will stop by his shop Friday.

They'll be at 802 Dempster St. to shoot scenes for an episode of the network's "Diners, Drive Ins and Dives" series called, what else, "Pizza, Burgers and Hot Dogs."

Paschalis says the spotlight will be on his one- and three-pound cheeseburgers, handmade dipping dogs and other treats including the fried pickles.

From the owner at LTHForum.com: "July 19 we'll be celebrating National Hot Dog Day. We're also celebrating the restaurants 33rd year and my 3rd year owning it. There will be $1.00 Hot Dogs and Dipping Dogs all day."

Get in before the national exposure hits and there are lines out the door!

Congrats, Gus--well deserved publicity! All of Evanston should come beating down your door for dippin' dogs (THE best corndogs, ever!) and awesome fries.

Sorry--I haven't been paying close attention... Did WASC get mentioned in the "Biggest Bang for your Buck" blog? If not, consider this my wholehearted nomination!
