Minivan collides with semi-trailer truck

A minivan got squeezed under a semi-trailer truck on Emerson Street just east of Ridge Avenue in Evanston about 2 p.m. today.

Update 3:30 p.m.: Police Cmdr. Joseph Dugan says a car pulling out of the shopping center parking lot on the corner of Emerson and Ridge struck the westbound minivan, forcing it into the semi that was parked legally at the curb.

Dugan says no body was hurt in the accident and both the car and minivan could be driven away.

So far no tickets have been issued, Dugan said.

Eastbound Emerson was still blocked at Ridge Avenue as of 2:45 p.m.

The minivan belongs to Reliable Express Transport Inc. of Addison and the semi to Hollander International Storage and Moving of Elk Grove Village.

I'm sorry for the minivan,

I'm sorry for the minivan, but I continue to be outraged by the freeway- and tollway-sized trucks that use Evanston streets.  I happen to live over Starbucks at 515 Main, and we get a 16-wheeler down our alley daily, also plenty of other delivery trucks.  You can look at or drive down that alley to see the damage these delivery trucks do.  Does the city plan to charge we residents with mere passenger cars for redoing the alley for future trucks?

That's what they are for

You know, the purpose of alleys is primarily for loading, deliveries, and garage access.  You shouldn't be surprised to see trucks in them.  Better there than blocking the streets.
