Evanston police, responding to a “man-with-a-gun” call Monday evening in the 1700 block of Hovland Court, just north of the Evanston Township High School campus, said they apprehended a 33-year-old parolee with a loaded Springfield Arms .45 caliber handgun in his backpack.

The man attempted to flee, police said, dropping a black backpack containing the weapon, along with additional ammunition.

Officers took him into custody in the 1800 block of Lemar Avenue, four blocks to the west of Hovland Avenue

Arrested and charged with unlawful use of a weapon by a felon, among other charges, was Devane Retreage, 33, of the 700 block of Wesley Avenue.

another arrest?

His first incarceration must have been a short one, because he's out again, doing the same stupid thing.   Maybe this time he'll get a clue!   Too bad...he's a father.  Thanks EPD for catching another loser!

Judges need to hand out harsher sentences for illegal guns

Why in the Sam Helen is this dude walking the streets, near the high school no matter?

Two years ago Retreage was arrested on Ridge in Evanston  for aggravated unlawful use of a weapon and criminal damange to government-supported property when he kicked out a police car window -- possession of ammunition without a valid firearm owner's ID card and driving with a revoked license, as well as traffic citations for failure to wear a seatbelt and no proof of insurance.

Police found a loaded Ruger .357 Magnum handgun under his car seat and 11 rounds of ammunition. How did he get that gun and the one he was arrested for this week? More importantly why is he back on the street?

Our liberal politicians cry that we need  more gun laws. No, we need to apply harsh sentences for illegal possiion of guns!!! Who was the judge that sentenced Retreage in 2015? Or was Retreage even sentenced?

Gun laws

Liberals constantly whining about more gun laws. Enforce current gun laws and make the penalties real.

Twenty years for having an unregistered gun.  But when I propose this, the left will whine about "mass incarceration."

true

There is mass incarceration because there are large masses of criminals who need to be locked up.  almost all of the arrests here and in chicago...people with loaded guns...are already felons on parole for the same thing..over and over.  If they're too stupid to get a clue, then they NEED to stay in prison where they can't shoot innocent people.  It's as simple as that.  Thank goodness for all the EPD and CPD arrests!   It's getting scary out there!
