The Evanston Dance Ensemble will open its 21st season Nov. 17 with an encore of one of its most popular programs, this year entitled "Viewpoint: The Young Choreographers Project."

It will be followed in March by a world premiere production with original music and dance of A Midsummer Night’s Dream.

"Viewpoint: The Young Choreographers Project" will be presented at Studio5 Performing Arts Center, adjacent to Dance Center Evanston at 1934 Dempster St. in the Evanston Plaza.

Under the shared artistic direction of Béa Rashid and Christina Ernst, "Viewpoint" features dancers from EDE, and pairs young choreographers from EDE with professional choreographers who serve as mentors throughout the project.

This year, special guest choreographers are Keesha Beckford (Hubbard Street Youth Dance Program) and Shelby Moran (an EDE alum, now dancing with Visceral Dance Chicago); the young choreographers are Jackie Baker, Caelen Behm, Chana Goldbloom, Natasha Lubar, Sarah Parisien, Anne Raspe, Isabelle Seegers, and Eliza Witt.

The program opens Friday, Nov. 17 at 7:30 p.m., with additional performances on Saturday, Nov. 18 at 4 and 7 p.m., and Sunday Nov. 19 at 4 and 7 p.m.

Tickets are priced at $12 for children under 18, students and seniors, and $18 for adults.  Tickets may be purchased online via Brown Paper Tickets. Talkbacks will be held after each performance.

EDE first presented the Young Choreographers Project in the 2002-2003 season, and it now returns almost every other season. Co-Artistic Director Ernst sees it as a “chance for young dancers to explore the process of choreography and how we all start from the same place: there is nothing, and then you create something.” Co-Artistic Director Rashid emphasized the show is suitable for all audiences and ages, “a wonderful, compact evening of dance that is dense with variety, and everyone will come away feeling very inspired and positive about the next generation.”

The Evanston Dance Ensemble is the youth dance company in residence at Dance Center Evanston with members ranging in age from 12 to 18. Over the past 20 seasons, EDE has gained a reputation for creating productions that are accessible and entertaining to audiences of all ages. The ensemble continues to devote itself to nurturing the power and artistry of talented young adults by creating inventive performances and programs of the highest quality, reflecting the diversity of our community and fostering inclusivity, collaboration, and creative expression.
