History center hosts holiday open house

The Evanston History Center will open the doors of its National Landmark Charles Gates Dawes House to the community in celebration of the holidays.

The annual Holiday Open House will take place Sunday, Dec. 3, from 1 to 4 p.m. at 225 Greenwood St. in Evanston.

The free event features live music, holiday treats, crafts for kids and the opportunity to explore the lakeside mansion decked out for the holidays.

This year marks the EHC’s 12th Annual Food Drive, conducted in partnership with the Greater Chicago Food Depository. The food collected in the EHC drive will go directly to an Evanston food pantry to benefit area residents.

Donations of nutritious, non-perishable food (no glass, please) will be accepted at the Dawes House from Thursday, Nov. 30, through Sunday, Dec. 3, from from 1 to 4 p.m. each day.

Holiday Open House Schedule:

1 to 2:30 p,m: Piano Music by Chris Mathieu in the Dawes Library

2:30 to 3 p.m.: Music and sing-along with Marian McNair in the Great Hall

1 to 4 p.m.: Exhibits open and house open for self-guided tours. Docents will be stationed throughout the house to answer questions.
