Friday, November 17 at 6:30 p.m. (5:45 p.m. reception)  Congregational Shabbat Dinner to follow at Beth Emet The Free Synagogue (1224 Dempster, Evanston)

Beth Emet welcomes preeminent poet, liturgist, painter, and author, Marcia Falk, who will deliver the D’var Torah (sermon) and engage in discussion during dinner. Her groundbreaking prayer book, The Book of Blessings: New Jewish Prayers for Daily Life, Sabbath, and the New Moon Festival recently celebrated its 20th Anniversary with a republished edition. Falk is widely published as the author of three books of poetry, has translated several works from Hebrew to Yiddish, and her most recent book is a collection of original Hebrew and English prayer, The Days Between: Blessings, Poems, and Directions of the Heart for the Jewish High Holiday Season.  and The Book of Blessings have been set to music by more than two dozen composers.
