Women cut, rob woman in daylight attack
Evanston police say a number of women robbed another woman as she walked near the intersection of Dodge and Mulford Wednesday afternoon.
The woman says the robbers, who she didn't know, followed her and then jumped her, threatening her with a steak knife and cutting her on the hand as she struggled with them.
The victim gave the robbers her purse and they ran off. The robbery occurred about 3:40 p.m.
The police report didn't specify how many robbers were involved in the attack, but they were described as black women in their late teens or early 20s. One was reported to be about 5-feet-6 with red hair, wearing a red t-shirt and capri jeans. Another was said to have microbraids and a white t-shirt.
A police spokesman didn't respond today to an e-mailed request for information about the age and home town of the victim.
Well, to paraphrase the great thinker Ald. Bernstein..."Crime is just a part of life." Hey, this is nice...I get to use the same comment for multiple stories happening in Evanston. However, I am sure this is not a good thing.
What is this city turning into when someone gets jumped and cut in broad daylight near a major avenue? This is ridiculous and I am dismayed that these kinds of stories do not cause more public outrage.
Evanston is a awesome city with many,many good things to offer its citizens. But when I hear stories like this it makes me rethink whether I really want to raise my kids here or not.
So no, Mr. Bernstein, I reject your thinking that crime is just a part of like which should be accepted.
