  1. Buyers circle closing Dominick’s markets – Oct. 15 – Several supermarket chains reportedly are interested in buying some of the 72 Dominick’s markets Safeway is closing in the Chicago area, but no deals have been announced yet for the two in Evanston.
  2. Wine shop owner says TJ’s is killing her business – Oct. 10 – Wine Goddess owner Diana Hamann is worried that if she doesn’t make a big change soon, she might be forced to relocate out of Evanston.
  3. Library to slam homeowners with 39% tax hike – Oct. 14 – Evanston’s appointed library board plans to hit residents with a 38.75 percent increase in its property tax levy next year.
  4. Student threatened with a gun at ETHS – Oct. 21 – Evanston police reported Monday that a student was threatened with a gun on the schoolgrounds of Evanston Township High School when classes were dismissed Friday afternoon. (The student’s claim later turned out to have been a hoax.)
  5. New Trader Joe’s building sold – Oct. 8 – Wilmette-based Terraco Inc. has sold the newly constructed building housing the Evanston Trader Joe’s store to California-based Loja Real Estate.
  6. Township supervisor resigns – Oct. 18 – Evanston Township Supervisor Gary Gaspard has resigned. In a one-paragraph letter set Thursday evening to Mayor Elizabeth Tisdahl and Town Clerk Rodney Greene. Gaspard said the part-time supervisor’s job “requires more time than I anticipated,” and that as a result he is resigning, effective today.
  7. Burrus: Lakefront not ‘accessible’ – Oct. 3 – Evanston is failing to make its lakefront accessible for all, Alderman Coleen Burrus told a panel on lakefront protection Wednesday night.
  8. 12-year-old girl hit in crosswalk – Oct. 1 – Evanston police say a 12-year-old girl walking her bicycle across Green Bay Road in a crosswalk at Central Street was hit by a car about  4 p.m. today.
  9. Two hurt in car crash at Lake and Ridge – Oct. 2 – The drivers of two cars were injured about 1 p.m. today when their vehicles collided at the intersection of Ridge Avenue and Lake Street in Evanston.
  10. E-cigarette users turn out to oppose ban – Oct. 15 – Evanston aldermen postponed action Monday on proposed restrictions on electronic cigarettes after several users said there’s no good reason to limit their use.
