Obama, Pritzker bookend October’s most-read stories

The president’s visit at the start of the month and the opening of a new bed and breakfast at the end of the month were among the most-read stories on Evanston Now during October. Here’s a rundown of the top 10.

1. President in Evanston for under two hours — Oct. 2 — President Obama arrived in Evanston about 12:45 this afternoon for a speech at Northwestern University’s Cahn Auditorium.
2. Car crashes into house after shootout, ruptures gas line — Oct. 8 — In an incident police say is gang-related, occupants of two cars exchanged gunfire near the intersection of Florence Avenue and Greenleaf Street in Evanston about 9:10 p.m. Tuesday.
3. Pedestrian dies from injuries in car accident — Oct. 8 — Police say a 60-year-old Evanston woman has died at Evanston Hospital after she was struck by a car last night.
4. Chief: Long-standing feud led to car crash into house — Oct. 10 — Evanston Police Chief Richard Eddington says Tuesday night’s shootout that led to a car crashing into a home on Florence and rupturing a gas line was the result of a long-running feud.
5. Prostitution arrest at massage parlor on Sherman — Oct. 17 — A 48-year-old Highland Park woman was arrested at an Evanston massage parlor yesterday after allegedly propositioning an undercover cop.
6. Police reviewing armed robber chase through park — Oct. 10 — Evanston Police Chief Richard Eddington says he’s continuing to review video footage of a police chase after an armed robber that sent squad cars through a city park.
7. Historic Wilmette house finds new home in Evanston — Oct. 9 — Starting tomorrow an architecturally significant home in Wilmette will begin a complicated move to a new site in Evanston.
8. New restaurant revives ancient name — Oct. 13 — A new restaurant opening next month on Central Street will bring back the name of the first dining establishment in the area.

Police roll through park chasing robbery suspect — Oct. 8 — Evanston police captured an armed robbery suspect Tuesday afternoon, but the sight of a half-dozen squad cars racing across a playing field adjacent to Washington School in an effort to capture the suspect left at least one parent with doubts about the tactic.
