Sure, it’s only February, but if you have a youngster who is planning to enter kindergarten in Evanston/Skokie School District 65 in the fall, the time to register this budding scholar is now.
Children must be five years old on or before Sept. 1 to register for kindergarten for the 2018-2019 school year.
The first thing a parent needs to do is to check the District 65 attendance map to determine where the child will be attending school.
Families must complete the registration process before applying for permissive transfer or to attend a magnet school or program.
Next, bring the family to a kindergarten information night. They are being held at the JEH Education Center, 1500 McDaniel Ave., from 6 p.m. to 8 p.m. on Feb. 21 and 22.
Both nights are open to families across the district, with no set agenda or presentation. Information will be available on magnet schools and programs, health requirements, the childcare program, bilingual programs, nutrition services, transportation, and more.
Registration will be Feb. 27 for incoming Dawes, Oakton, and Walker students; Feb. 28 for incoming Kingsley, Lincolnwood, Orrington, and Willard students; and March 1 for incoming Dewey, Lincoln, and Washington students. March 2 will be a makeup date for all schools.
Registration will be held at the JEH Education Center from 11 a.m.-7 p.m. on February 27-28, and March 1, and from 7 am-11 am on March 2, Families can register on any of these dates but are encouraged to register on the date specified for their school. Families interested in magnet schools, magnet programs, and permissive transfers must first register for their attendance-area school.
More information about the kindergarten registration process is available on the district’s website.
