Evanston Township High School today announced the launch of its newly redesigned website.
The at-a-glance section of the homepage features frequently used online resources such as school food menus, teacher websites, links to online portals and the web store.
The site uses an improved online event calendar with a shareable iCal feature that allows users subscribe to the calendar and view school events on their mobile device or personal web calendars.
In an effort to streamline the web user experience for families who have students in both Evanston/Skokie District 65 schools and ETHS, the new ETHS website was designed using similar features and a navigation structure that closely mirrors the newly-launched District 65 website.
The new ETHS website uses a “responsive” design that make it easier to view on any device — desktop or laptop computers, Chromebooks, tablet devices and mobile phones. The new site uses a more robust translation feature so that web page text can be translated into more than 30 languages spoken by ETHS students and their families, including Spanish, Haitian Creole, Tagalog, Chinese, Arabic, Russian and French.
The ETHS Communications Office and the Instructional and Informational Technology (IIT) Department has worked since March with content stakeholders to implement the new structure of the website and create improved content. Feedback from the website redesign survey and stakeholder user test groups helped identify key areas for improvement.
The school is seeking user feedback on the new site through an online survey.
Good upgrade for new website, but…
… at the bottom of the front page of the website, it states:
“Embracing its diversity, ETHS dedicates itself to educating all students to their fullest potential.”
is this really true? What is the Board’s and Administration’s definition of “diversity”, “all” and “fullest potential” ?
Rhetoric sounds good, but the Board’s and Administration’s actions appear in conflict to these stated words.
