A resident upset by the sound of leaf blowing on Thanksgiving Day has sparked proposed revisions to Evanston's leaf blower ordinance that will be up for debate by aldermen tonight.
The change would extend the current ban on gasoline-powered leaf blowers to apply to all city, state and federal holidays.
Use of the gas-powered leaf blowers is already banned:
- At any time on Sundays
- Before 9 a.m. and after 5 p.m. on Saturdays.
- Before 7 a.m. and after 9 p.m. on weekdays.
- At any time of day in the periods between May 15 and Sept. 30 and between Dec. 15 and March 30.
Violation of the ordinance hypothetically can lead to a fine of at least $75, but enforcement efforts have had limited impact.
