Former Evanston 2nd Ward alderman Betty Burns Paden has died.
Paden represented the ward from 1987 to 1993. Her death was announced by city officials this morning. Information on funeral services was not yet available.
Paden, who said her family traced its history in Evanston to the 1860s, was a 1955 graduate of Evanston Township High School and owned several rental properties in the city.
She was licensed as an attorney in 1980 and for many years operated her law office from her home at 1122 Emerson St.
But she was disbarred in 2008 for cheating a client of proceeds of a real estate transaction.
More recently, in 2012, she spoke at a 2nd Ward meeting in opposition to the cost to taxpayers of a proposed new school in the 5th Ward, saying, "I think old people should have the right to live on the little money they have left."
