Evanston veterans groups gathered at Fountain Square this morning to mark the armistice that ended World War I at the 11th hour of the 11th day of the 11th month of the year and to celebrate the service of veterans before and since.

Local politicians spoke of what government has done and should be doing for veterans, and representatives of the veterans groups laid wreaths at the base of the Fountain Square flag pole to remember the dead.
