Police say they’ve arrested four Evanston teenagers in connection with a burglary nearly two months ago in which about $20,000 worth of jewelry, computers, cameras and other items were stolen from a home in the 1000 block of Michigan Ave.
Evanston Police Cmdr. Jay Parrott says about a week ago a detective learned that a laptop computer and a guitar taken in the burglary were sold to a business in Niles called Cash Convertors.
Parrott says police managed to locate and arrest the person who’d sold the items, who in turn provided them with information about three other teens police say were involved in the heist.
The four — Mathew W. May, 17, of 1502 Washington St.; Jordan M. Reid, 19, of 2428 Bradley Place; Ethan A. Strong, 18, of 1037 Mc Daniel Ave., and Shawn A. Wallace, 19, of 1141 Pitner Ave. — have now been charged with residential burglary in the Michigan Avenue case.
Detectives were able to recover several items taken from the Michigan Avenue home, including watches, a guitar and documents.
In addition, two motor scooters were recovered that were stolen in a Feb. 17 burglary to a garage in the 2500 block of Lincoln Avenue. That led to additional burglary charges against May, Reid and Strong.
Parrott says other items recovered from one of the arrestee’s vehicles linked the teens to recent residential burglaries in Deerfield and Highland Park. It’s unknown whether additional charges have been filed by police in those communities.
The four are scheduled to appear in Skokie district court at 9 a.m. on March 12.
