Robber tries to strong-arm NU student

A Northwestern student was the victim of a strong-arm robbery attempt about 5:50 a.m. this morning while he was walking northbound on the sidewalk between the Music Administration Building and the Rebecca Crown Center on the edge of downtown Evanston.

The victim told university police he was approached from behind by an unknown male suspect, who began grabbing for his coat and pants pockets.
He said the suspect made statements, such as: "Let it go!" and "Give it up!" Then the suspect punched the victim in the face.
The student fought with the offender, who eventually fled the area. The victim suffered minor injuries in the scuffle, but he declined transport to the hospital. The victim stated that no weapons were displayed and that
nothing was taken from his person during the incident.
The victim described the offender as a black male in his early 20's, about 5-feet-8-inches to 5-feet-9-inches tall, with an average build and wearing a black, dark-colored coat and a black knit hat.
This incident is currently under investigation by the Northwestern University Police Department. Police are asking anyone with information about the incident to call them at 847-491-3456.
