A  52-year-old Evanston man was critically injured just after 10 p.m. Saturday when he was struck by a car in the 1700 block of Dodge Avenue.

Evanston Police Cmdr. Joseph Dugan says officers found the man unconscious, lying face down in the roadway, suffering from multiple injuries.

He was transported to Evanston Hospital by Evanston Fire Department paramedics in critical condition, with head and facial injuries and cuts on his abdomen, Dugan says, but his condition has since been stabilized.

Dugan says the driver of the vehicle, an 18-year-old male, was on the scene and displayed no signs of impairment on sobriety tests. The Major Crash Assistance Team was activated and responded to the scene. The cause of the accident is still under investigation, Dugan says, and no tickets have been issued at this time.

  1. Pedestrian safety

I wish the victim a speedy recovery.

People being run over is becoming too common. NHTSA data showed a 9% increase in pedestrians being killed last year. Chicago is trying to come up with a Vision Zero plan. What is Evanston doing?
