Gino R. Garcia, 53, of 1920 Lake St., was arrested at home at 5:03 p.m. Sunday and charged with simple assault. He is due in court on Feb. 27 at 9:30 a.m.
EVANSTON CRIME: Takes a free ride and a cell phone
An offender took a cell phone from a victim who gave him a ride Monday in the 1600 block of Dodge Avenue. Also a burglar made off with tools from a garage in the 1400 block of Pitner Avenue. These and other stories in today's daily crime bulletin from Evanston police.
Assault
Burglary
Someone used a tool to force the garage door open at a home in the 1400 block of Pitner Avenue between 9:30 p.m. Saturday and 8:30 a.m. Sunday and stole a number of tools.
Costume jewelry, a television set, and hair extensions were stolen from a beauty shop in the 700 block of Howard Street between 2:30 a.m. and 7:02 a.m. Sunday. Suspect is a black male.
Criminal damage to vehicle
A window was shattered on a 2002 Ford parked on the street in the 1800 block of Hovland Court between 3:30 p.m. and 11:09 p.m. Monday.
Drugs
Eshrak Fazal Elahi, 22, of Northville, Mich., was arrested at 2509 Ashland Ave. at 2:08 a.m. Sunday and charged with possession of cannabis. He is due in court on March 28 at 9 a.m.
Theft
Odell Starling, 57, of 1458 Chicago Ave., was arrested at 1640 Chicago Ave. at 10:05 a.m. Sunday and charged with retail theft of items from a grocery store. He is due in court on Feb. 25 at 9 a.m.
Shoes and a suitcase, left unattended in a public building in the 1700 block of Main Street, were stolen at 3:08 p.m. Monday. Suspect is a 6-foot-tall black male weighing 185 pounds.
An offender stole a cell phone from a victim who gave him a ride in the 1600 block of Dodge Avenue at 12:28 p.m. Monday. Suspect is a 5-foot-7-inch-tall black male weighing 155 pounds.
Traffic
Alonso Escamilla-Solis, 24, of 6057 N. California Ave., Chicago, was arrested at 2024 McCormick Blvd. at 1:55 a.m. Tuesday and charged with a traffic violation. Court date is set for March 27 at 9 a.m.
Jesus Murguia, 38, of 7108 N. Sheridan Road, Chicago, was arrested at 621 Howard St. at 9:16 a.m. Saturday and charged with a traffic violation. Court date is set for April 3 at 10:30 a.m.
