As snow piled up in Evanston over the last nine days, criminals apparently decided it was better to stay inside than go outside and burgle.
The daily crime report from Evanston police for the past weekend listed only four incidents and three arrests, for a total of seven entries. Normally, the total is well into the double digits.
By comparison, the number of entries totalled 16, 18, and 13, for the preceding Monday reports.
The three arrests were for “inside” jobs, including shoplifting, domestic battery, and a traffic violation.
Here are the details for the latest weekend:
Battery
2300 Noyes
Ellis Brandon Neal, 22, of 2300 Noyes Court, was arrested at that address at 4:57 p.m. Saturday and charged with domestic battery.
Criminal Damage
1500 Chicago
Someone keyed a 2016 Toyota in the 1500 block of Chicago Avenue between 3:30 p.m. and 7:30 p.m. Saturday.
Robbery
300 Asbury
A robber took a victim’s cell phone in the 300 block of Asbury Avenue at about 2:45 p.m. Saturday.
Theft
800 Forest
A double stroller left unattended in an apartment common area in the 800 block of Forest Avenue was stolen between 6:30 p.m. Friday and 7:30 a.m. Saturday.
1200 Fowler
Cash and jewelry were taken from the living room of a home in the 1200 block of Fowler Avenue between 1 p.m. and 5 p.m. Saturday.
2450 Main
Evelyn A. Guerrero, 29, of 703 Brummel St., was arrested at 2450 Main St. at 1:50 p.m. Friday and charged with retail theft. She is due in court on March 16 at 9 a.m.
Traffic
800 Dodge
Ronaldo L. Sterling, 22, of 1906 Lee St., was arrested at 800 Dodge Ave. at 1:32 p.m. Friday and charged with a traffic violation. He is due in court on March 6 at 9 a.m.
Incidents listed appear among the official reports of the Evanston Police Department. An arrest does not constitute a finding of guilt, which can only be determined by a court of law. Court appearances take place in Cook County 2nd District Circuit Court in Skokie.
