Setback added to 831 Emerson plan

A planned nine-story 242-unit residential development at 831 Emerson St. has gained a three-and-a-half-foot front yard setback as the developer seeks final approval for the project at tonight's Evanston City Council meeting.

Alderman Judy Fiske, 1st Ward, told residents at a ward meeting last week that she thinks the building should have a 27-foot setback.

The existing two story commercial building on the site is built to the property line.

The lack of a setback also drew complaints the last time the City Council discussed the project, on April 17, from Alderman Melissa Wynne, 3rd Ward. And Alderman Eleanor Revelle, 7th Ward, also voted against the project at that time.

With three new aldermen joining the City Council since that vote, it appears the council's new members will determine whether the plan can get the six vote majority required for passage tonight.
