Baseball: Evanston explodes in sixth for victory over Maine East
The 17-2 final score may look like it was easy win for the Wildkits over Maine East, but the real story is that the game was a nailbiter and was tied at two entering the top of the sixth inning.
Then Kevin Kleschen singled home two runs with the bases loaded to give the Kits the lead for good and to open the floodgates for a massive 15 run inning.
Evanston took a 1-0 lead in the first but Maine East countered with runs in the third and fourth to take a 2-1 lead going into the fifth.
Julian Gonzalez singled home Jeremias Delgado with two outs in the fifth to tie the game.
In the bottom of the inning, Maine East threatened with runners on first and third and two outs. Evanston pitcher Miles Shatkin (4 2/3 innings, 5 hits, 2 ER, 5 SO) was then relieved by Jack Anderson who struck out the only batter he faced. Anderson earned the victory for the Kits despite only facing one batter. Matt Munro finished the sixth for Evanston.
Offensively, Evanston pounded out 12 hits. Connor Hackett was three for four with a double and Julian Gonzalez was two for three with four runs batted in. Max Siedlecki and Brandon Vamarasi added two hits for the Wildkits.
Evanston runs its record to 12-7 and 3-0 in the CSL. They begin a two game series with Niles West today at home at 4:45 p.m.
