Evanston police report that a total of 13 cars were broken into in Northwest Evanston late Thursday night or early Friday morning.

Eight of the break-ins happened in the 3000 and 3200 blocks of Hartzell Street, three more in the 2400 and 2600 blocks of Noyes Street, and one each in the 2300 block of Prospect Avenue and the 2200 block of Pioneer Road.

The interiors of all the cars were ransacked, but only a few of the victims reported anything missing. Objects that were taken included a laptop computer, a DVD player, an iPod, books, a watch and coins.

Several of the cars had apparently been left unlocked.
