Evanston reported 14 more COVID-19 cases today for a total of 593, while across the state there were 1,545 new cases for a total of 98,030.

Chicago reported 485 new cases for a total of 37,919.

Evanston reported two more deaths today for a total of 22. Chicago reported 48 new deaths for a total of 1,729. Statewide the death toll increased by 145 to 4,379.

Gov. J.B. Pritzker today reported that Illinois now ranks at the top among the nation’s 10 most populous states in the average number of coronavirus tests comleted per capita over the last seven days.

He said the state still plans to push the testing number even higher and that anyone with symptoms or anyone with or without symptoms who is an essential worker, immunocompromised or has had contact with a confirmed case can get tested for free at one of more than 250 sites across the state.

The Illinois Department of Public Health reported that Evanston had a 26.5% positive rate on tests reported today. Statewide the positive rate today was just 8.4%.

State officials this afternoon said they would be issuing guidelines in the next few days about the rules different types of businesses would have to follow when they reopen for Phase 3 of the governor’s recoverly plan, scheduled to go into effect on May 29. And the governor noted that all sections of the state are currently on track to meet the standards required for moving to that next phase on schedule.
