Police say a 16-year-old Evanston resident has been charged with aggravated assault and unlawful possession of a firearm after an incident Sunday afternoon.

Police Cmdr. Joseph Dugan says officers were dispatched to the area of Emerson Street and Brown Avenue about 4:10 p.m. where a 32-year-old woman said a teenager she knew from the area had pointed a handgun at her and then fled on foot.

Dugan says officers spotted the suspect in the 1900 block of Emerson. He fled into a home but was taken into custody there where police also recovered a Glock 9mm handgun.

The juvenile was transported to the Cook County Juvenile Detention Center.
