Evanston health officials reported 19 new COVID-19 cases among city residents today. And the last region of the state that wasn’t already faced with mitigation measures was added to the list.

Statewide there were 6,980 new cases, down from Saturday’s record high 7,899.

The state reported 78,458 coronavirus test results today, down after two days of exceeding 90,000 daily tests.

The statewide positive rate today was 8.9%, compared to a seven-day average of 8.0%.

Gov. J.B. Pritzker today added Region 2 in north central Illinois to the list of regions required to stop having indoor bar and restaurant service and required to restrict the size of indoor gatherings to 25 rather than 50 people.

Similar restrictions, triggered by rising COVID case rates, have now been applied to all the other regions of the state, including suburban Cook County.

The seven-day positive test rate in suburban Cook County is now at 9.1%, up from 6.8% a week ago.

The Illinois Department of Public Health reported tests of 1,462 Evanston residents today. It found 21 positive cases for a daily positive rate of 1.4%

Here are the latest seven-day positive rates for some other communities:

  • Chicago 8.9%, up from 6.8% a week ago.
  • Skokie 4.9%, up from 4.6% a week ago.
  • Wilmette 6.4%, up from 3.2% a week ago.

Chicago reported 1,888 new cases today for a total of 104,526. Its coronavirus death toll increased by four today to 3,078.

Suburban Cook County reported 1,554 more cases today for a total of 88,576 and 11 more deaths for a total of 2,422.

Those who died in Cook County today included four women and four men in their 70s, a woman and two men in their 80s, a woman and two men in their 90s and a man who was over 100 years old.

The state now has had 417,280 COVID-19 cases, and it reported 35 more deaths today for a total of 9,792.

As of last night, 3,294 people in Illinois were reported to be in the hospital with COVID-19. Of those, 692 patients were in the ICU and 284 of those were on ventilators.
