Two afternoon robberies took place this week in Evanston–one on a sidewalk, the other in a CTA station. They are among the stories in today’s crime bulletin from Evanston police.

ROBBERY

1000 Chicago

A 37-year-old woman who was walking on the sidewalk in the 1000 block of Chicago Avenue was knocked down and her purse was taken at about 3 p.m. Tuesday. She scraped her hand in the fall, but did not require hospitalization. The robber fled.

600 South Boulevard

A 23-year-old man had just withdrawn $500 from the ATM on the ground floor of the South Boulevard CTA station at about 12:45 p.m. Wednesday when four men came down the steps, followed him outside, grabbed the cash, and fled.

BATTERY

134 Elmwood

Avory Lorenz Shearer, 32, of 6129 S. King Drive, Chicago, was arrested at 134 Elmwood Ave. at 11:01 a.m. yesterday and charged with domestic battery. He is due in court on Jan. 27 at 9:30 a.m.

BURGLARY

1600 Monroe

Burglars gained entry to an unlocked 2008 Volvo between 9 p.m. Tuesday and 4 p.m. Wednesday in the 1600 block of Monroe Street.

1300 Asbury

A burglar gained entry to the garage of a home in the 1300 block of Asbury Avenue around 8 a.m. Wednesday, attempted to steal a 2013 Ford, but took a bicycle.

1900 Emerson

Documents were taken from an unlocked 2005 Honda in the 1900 block of Emerson Street between 6 p.m. Sunday and 8:43 a.m. Tuesday.

600 Mulford

A burglar damaged a door to gain entry to an apartment building in the 600 block of Mulford Street between noon Monday and 4:55 p.m. Wednesday. Nothing was reported taken.

GRAFFITI

1400 Chicago

Graffiti was discovered on a garbage bin in a park in the 1400 block of Chicago Avenue at 10:27 a.m. Wednesday.

OTHER

1305 Pitner

Maleek Jasonte Evans, 24, of 320 Alexis St., Plano, was arrested at 1305 Pitner Ave. at 8:51 p.m. Tuesday and charged with unlawful use of a weapon.

THEFT

2200 Howard

Electronic merchandise was taken from a store in the 2200 block of Howard Street around 7:20 p.m. Monday.

900 Maple

Cash was stolen from the bedroom of an apartment in the 900 block of Maple Avenue between 1 a.m. and 4:15 a.m. Wednesday.

700 Clark

A package was stolen from the mailroom of a building in the 700 block of Clark Street between 11 a.m. on Jan. 8 and 11 a.m. on Wednesday.

600 Mulford

An unsecured bicycle was taken from the storage area of a building in the 600 block of Mulford Street at about 9:30 a.m. Wednesday.

500 Hinman

2000 Main

Catalytic converters were removed from four Toyotas and a Honda in the 700 and 1500 blocks of Washington Street, the 1300 block of Madison Street, the 500 block of Hinman Avenue, and the 2000 block of Main Street between Jan. 8 at 3 p.m. and 4:24 p.m. Wednesday.

Incidents listed appear among the official reports of the Evanston Police Department. An arrest does not constitute an assumption of guilt, which can only be determined by a court of law. Court appearances take place in Cook County 2nd District Court in Skokie.
