Evanston health officials reported 20 new COVID-19 cases for the second day in a row today. And the city’s death toll increased by one to 87.
Statewide there were 7,178 new cases, compared to 7,873 yesterday, for a new total of 720,114. The state reported 56 deaths, compared to 108 yesterday, for a new total of 12,193.
The state reported 62,740 COVID-19 tests today, compared to 79,055 yesterday and to a daily average of more than 100,000 before the holiday weekend began.
The Illinois Department of Public Health reported tests of 391 Evanston residents today, compared to 510 yesterday. It found 21 positive cases for a daily positive rate of 5.4%.
The state now says Evanston has had a total of 2,375 cases, while Evanston’s health department counts 2,314 cases.
Chicago reported 1,198 new cases today for a total of 160,802. Its coronavirus death toll increased by 11 today to 3,454.
Suburban Cook County reported 1,440 more cases today for a total of 143,418 and 22 more deaths for a total of 2,917.
Those who died in Cook County today included a man in his 40s, three women and one man in their 50s, one woman and four men in their 60s, five women and three men in their 70s, nine men in their 80s and one woman and five men in their 90s.
As of last night, 5,858 people in Illinois were reported to be in the hospital with COVID-19. Of those, 1,185 patients were in the ICU and 723 of those were on ventilators.
