The work started with a truckload of cardboard boxes to spread across the vacant lot at Dodge Avenue and Davis Street, across from the school.

and spread them all around the lot up to six inches deep. Seven raised beds, built by a shop class, are already on the site, with 17 more to come. The cardboard and bark mulch will provide a weed-free, and hopefully mud-free surface for people to use to walk around those beds.
What’s called the “Edible Acre” pilot project is designed to provide learning experiences, leadership opportunities and summer jobs for ETHS students, as well as fresh produce. It’s a joint initiative of The Talking Farm and the high school.
