Evanston health officials reported 22 new COVID-19 cases today, up from nine yesterday. The city’s death toll remained unchanged today at 95.

Statewide there were 5,059 new cases today, compared to 4,469 yesterday, for a new total of 984,880.

The state reported 79 COVID-19 deaths today, compared to 81 yesterday, for a new total of 16,834.

The state reported 48,254 COVID-19 tests today, compared to 45,465 yesterday.

With substantially fewer tests being performed than before the holiday weekend, positive rates have generally been increasing.

The Illinois Department of public health reported tests of 415 Evanston residents today, compared to 335 yesterday. It found 10 positive cases for a daily positive rate of 2.4%.

The state now says Evanston has had a total of 3,221 cases, while Evanston’s health department counts 3,161 cases.

Chicago reported 853 new COVID-19 cases today for a total of 207,821 and 28 new deaths, for a total of 4,209.

Suburban Cook county reported 814 new cases today for a total of 191,680 and 36 more deaths for a total of 3,776.

The IDPH reported that the deaths in Cook County included a man in his 30s, a woman and a man in their 40s, a woman and five men in their 50s, two women and seven men in their 60s, 11 women and seven men in their 70s, 10 women and five men in their 80s six women and three men in their 90s and two women over 100 years old.

As of last night, 3,817 people in Illinois were reported to be in the hospital with COVID-19. Of those, 798 patients were in the ICU and 462 of those were on ventilators.
