Evanston’s Health Department reported 24 new COVID-19 cases today bringing the city’s total to 579, while across Illinois there were 2,294 new cases, for a total of 96,485.

Of the statewide case count, 813 new cases were reported in Chicago, bringing that city’s total to 37,434.

The death toll reported by Evanston remained unchanged at 20. Chicago reported 45 more deaths for a total of 1,681 and across the state there were 57 additional deaths for a total of 4,234.

The Illinois Department of Public Health reported just 11 new COVID-19 cases in Evanston today. By its tally the city has seen a total of 566 cases based on 3,670 people tested for a pandemic-to-date positive test rate of 15.42%

The Northeast Illinois region now has a 17.9% positive test rate on the 14-day scale used in the governor’s Restore Illinois plan. That’s down from 18.3% on Sunday. It needs to remain below 20% to meet one of the standards for moving to the next phase of the reopening plan at the end of this month.

The state reported on 22,974 coronavirus tests today and said 10.8% of them returned positive results.
