Five men from Chicago, dressed as women, paid a visit to a beauty supply shop at Main Street and Dodge Avenue late Tuesday afternoon and were arrested by Evanston police shortly thereafter for allegedly walking off with nearly $800 worth of hair supplies.

The incident occurred at the Main Beauty Supply, located in a shopping strip at 838 Dodge Ave., just before 6 p.m., police said.

Their haul included hair weaves, hair grease, and hair clips valued at $784, according to the police report.

Police responded and captured three of the suspects at 600 Dodge Ave., another at 2100 Cleveland St., and a fifth at the intersection of Dodge and Cleveland.

Arrested and charged with retail theft were Ken A. Mattel, 18, of 7222 S. Wood; James McDavis, 18, of 8051 S. Evans; Sean L. Porter, 19, of 3179 N. Broadway; Sylvester Scarborough, 24, of 2970 N. Sheridan, and Anthony White, 22, of 4944 W. Huron, all in Chicago.

The five are scheduled to appear in Skokie district court on Nov. 28 at 1:30 p.m.
