Aside from the fact that you may receive a citation, the Evanston Police Department is giving dog owners six more reasons for keeping their dog on a leash while out in the public.
1. Confrontation with another dog.
2.The unleashed dog could unintentionally hurt someone, especially the elderly and children, with rough play.
3.The dog could eat something harmful or fatal to them.
4.It increases the chances your dog could be hit by a car.
5.It makes it more difficult to locate and pick up your dog’s waste.
6.It can create a nuisance for residents who are not dog lovers.
The department has posted a video on its Facebook page to remind citizens of the city’s leash law.
