Evanston reported eight new COVID-19 cases today for a total of 555 and the state health department said the positive rate on tests of Evanston residents today was 12.8%

Chicago reported 615 new COVID-19 cases today for a total of 36,621. Across the state there were 1,734 new cases for a total of 94,191.

No new COVID-19 deaths were reported by the Evanston Health Department today, leaving its total at 20. There are substantial delays in the city receiving death reports, and it appears from Cook County Medical Examiner’s records that the death toll here is actually at least 29.

Chicago reported 16 new deaths for a total of 1,636. Statewide the COVID-19 death toll now stands at 4,177 with 48 new deaths reported today.

The positive case rate for the Northeast Illinois region continued to decline, to 18.3% today from 18.8% on Saturday. It needs to remain below 20% to meet one of the standards for moving to the next phase of the state’s Restore Illinois plan at the end of this month.  

The state reported receiving results of 20,295 coronavirus tests today. The positive rate on all tests reported statewide was 8.5%
