Evanston health officials reported 12 new COVID-19 cases among Evanston residents today. Statewide there were 4,245 new cases.

The seven-day positive rate statewide is now 5.3%, up from 4.2% a week ago.

The Illinois Department of Public Health reported results of 79,296 tests today, up slightly from Saturday’s 77,489.

The IDPH reported tests of 728 Evanston residents today. It found eight positive cases for a positive rate of 1.1%, compared to the seven-day average of 2.0%. A week ago, the seven-day rate for Evanston was 1.4%.

The state now says Evanston has had a total of 1,285 cases.

The city now says Evanston has had a total of 1,293 cases. The city’s death toll from the pandemic remained unchanged today at 73.

Here are the latest seven-day positive rates for some other communities:

  • Chicago 5.5%.
  • Suburban Cook County 5.8%
  • Skokie 3.6%
  • Wilmette 4.6%

Chicago reported 932 new cases today for a total of 89,392. Its coronavirus death toll increased by three today to 3,016.

Suburban Cook County reported 760 more cases today for a total of 74,520 and four more deaths for a total of 2,341.

Those who died in Cook County today included a man in his 50s, a man in his 60s, two men in their 70s and three women in their 80s.

The state now has 344,048 COVID-19 cases, and it reported 22 more deaths today for a total of 9,214.

As of last night, 2,012 people in Illinois were reported to be in the hospital with COVID-19. Of those, 408 patients were in the ICU and 157 of those were on ventilators.
