A vintage sign became visible this week for the first time in decades as demolition work continued at the planned new home of Northlight Theatre.
Evanston Now reader Phil Nyden captured this image of a World War II vintage sign on the wall of the two-story former Rock ‘N Ravioli building at 1012 Church St.
The sign may suggest that the one-story building at 1016 Church that until recently housed the Thai Sookdee restaurant may have replaced a gas station on the property.
The company Victory Gaskets occupied the site from 1945 to 1950 and they sold and distributed gaskets and dyes.
I’ll remember that site as where Carmen’s used to be. It’s where our family frequently got pizza when we we’re kids. We loved sitting on the second floor and watching them make the pizzas. By comparison, it seems like Rock n Ravioli only occupied the site for a blink of an eye.
