It may seem like winter has just begun to make itself known, but in just a few days, many Evanstonians will be awaken at 4 a.m. by the decibel-agonizing sound of the street-cleaning machine.

Yes, check that sign again on the street where you live and note that street-cleaning season—a true sign of spring—will begin on March 1, and that’s less than two weeks away.

Those signs, at the beginning and end of each block, will tell you the days and times that parking restrictions will be in place. Or you can check the street cleaning map and schedule on the city’s website.

Parking is prohibited only on the sides and dates indicated on the street signs. Parking will be prohibited as indicated and residents are reminded to check the street signs before parking their cars.

That website page also provides you the opportunity to sign up for courtesy text messages and email notifications to remind you to move your vehicles prior to street cleaning.

Street cleaning will run through Friday, Dec. 14, weather permitting, just in time for the beginning of snow-removal season.
