Evanston aldermen Monday are scheduled to approve a third change order for the Fountain Square renovation project that will delay the project completion to just beyond Memorial Day.
The project originally had been scheduled to be finished by last Dec. 1. But Public Works Director Dave Stoneback says that several factors — including delays in getting a state health permit for the fountain and extended lead times for obtaining the glass for the memorial wall — work on the plaza had already been extended until May 1.
Now, he says, there’ve been additional delays over the winter, and it’s expected the work won’t be completed until May 30.
The latest delays, he says, include extra time to add an additional name to the memorial wall and to modify the wall’s lighting system and the location of the fountain controller cabinet.
The city calendar still shows plans to hold the annual Memorial Day ceremony at Fountain Square at 10 a.m. on Monday, May 28.
Last year, with the square under construction, the Memorial Day ceremony was held at Patriot Park on the lakefront.
