Some residents of the newly dubbed “West Village” neighborhood in Evanston plan to gather at 6 p.m. today at Dempster Street and Dodge Avenue for a vigil against violence — including the shooting Friday at the McDonald’s restaurant near the intersection.

Organizer Dickelle Fonda says “Our community is standing against this violence and saying it is not an inevitability in our city or in the world.”

One teenager is hospitalized with a gunshot wound and five teens are in police custody in connection with the Friday shooting, which followed by six days an anti-violence rally held at Evanston Township High School.
