It’s “curtains up, light the lights” again for local talent as Evanston Community Television looks for participants in its planned May 21 broadcast of its fourth annual fundraising competition, “Evanston Idol.”

The contest will be broadcast live on cable channel 6 and streamed live on the internet for the very first time.

Audition dates have yet to be announced but singers, musicians, dancers, magicians, poets—any performing artists with a talent to share—are eligible.

“With our website and the world of internet communication added to our 17,000 cable subscribers, we hope to showcase local talent while fundraising for our local community television organization,” said Cindy Cort, Evanston Idol producer and ECTV board member.

As an independent not-for-profit organization, ECTV hopes to widen its base of support through marketing events such as this one. “We are widening our search for sponsors to help underwrite this fun event as the internet tools now available make “Evanston Idol” a 24/7 viewing possibility,” adds Cort.

This year’s competition hopes to attract three levels of sponsorships that would provide additional funding for ECTV and make possible a variety of prizes for the contest’s winners.

“It’s a win-win situation,” says Cort who has produced all the Evanston Idol competitions, adding, “The internet allows us a greater audience reach which has a greater business appeal.”
