Are you ready to join the Academy?

The next Citizens Police Academy will begin at the end of summer. Take advantage of this free, eye-opening experience that will teach you about the Evanston Police Department. You’ll ride with the cops; investigate crime scenes, collect evidence; watch the City’s 9-1-1 telecommunicators in action and learn about a day in the life of officers and the civilians who work for the Evanston Police Department.

Starting Aug. 28, this 12-week course will take you through the critical elements of police work in Evanston, including criminal and juvenile investigations, traffic and accident investigations, police tactics and an interactive mock trial conducted by Cook County Assistant State’s Attorneys.

The Citizens Police Academy is free to those applicants who meet a few simple requirements: You must be an Evanston resident, local business owner, employee or student; and you must be at least 18 years of age.

Classes take place every Thursday evening from 7 to 9 p.m through Nov. 13. To sign up or learn more about the program, call the Evanston Police Department Community Strategies Bureau at (847) 866-5019.
