Evanston police have charged a Chicago man in a January holdup at the Aldi Foods store at 2211 Oakton St.

Police say a man entered the store about 9 p.m. on Jan. 9 and robbed a clerk at gunpoint of $1,575.69 in cash from the register.

Police spokesman Perry Polinski says that witnesses, surveillance video and physical evidence helped detectives develop information leading to the arrest of Hamilton G. Solorzano of 4421 N. Kmball Ave. in Chicago.

Solorzano, who was taken into custody on Feb. 28, appeared in bond court in Skokie Tuesday on the armed robbery charge, a Class X felony.
