Artist seeks public input on Crown sculpture

Artist Blessing Hancock, selected through a call for artists process by the City of Evanston in partnership with the city’s Arts Council, will create a public art installation for the new Robert Crown Community Center and is seeking public input to be incorporated into the design.

The art installation is expected to feature an interactive sculptural shape with etched words that embody the themes of learning, recreation, and community within the context of the Evanston community.

Hancock will attend three community events to meet with residents and gather public input on what words should be included in her design.

  • Friday, Nov. 1 – Robert Crown After School Program, 1701 Main St., 3:30 p.m. to 6 p.m.
  • Saturday, Nov. 2 – Evanston Public Library, 1703 Orrington Ave., 9  a.m. to 11 a.m.
  • Saturday, Nov. 2 – Robert Crown Flea Market, Noon to 3:30 p.m.

Community members can also participate in the design process by submitting their words through a digital form by 5 p.m. on Friday, Nov. 15.
