An Evanston man has been charged with attempted murder after a shooting incident in the 300 block of Sherman Avenue Saturday night.

Police say Tremell Deonte Richardson, 21, of 1415 Darrow Ave., allegedly shot a 56-year-old Evanston man after they became embroiled in an argument.

Police say the shooting followed several disputes earlier in the day involving the victim, a woman with whom he had fathered a child and several of the woman’s male associates.

The victim was transported to St. Francis Hospital where he was treated for gunshot wounds to the chest and hand.

Police say that, after being released from the hospital, the victim identified Richardson in a lineup on Sunday as the man who had shot him, and also identified Calvin Banks Jr., 22, of 1620 Monroe St., as a person who had struck him in the eye with his fist during the argument.

Banks has been charged with aggravated battery and mob action and was held for a parole violation at the request of the state corrections department.

Police say they recovered a gun they believe was the weapon used in the shooting on Sunday morning at a building near the scene and have sent it to the crime lab for fingerprint tests.
