Police say one resident attacked another with a box cutter at the Greenwood Care nursing home in Evanston Wednesday morning.

The state’s attorney’s office has charged the alleged assailant, 44-year-old John Franklin Pittman, with attempted first degree murder and two counts of aggravated battery.

Evanston police say they were called to Greenwood Care at 1406 Chicago Ave. at 5:20 a.m, where they found a 40-year-old man who had substantial cuts on his chin, face and neck.

The victim reportedly told police he’d been in the home’s smoking lounge when Pittman, with whom he’d quarreled before, attacked him with the box cutter, before fleeing from the building down a stairwell.

Police say they located Pittman nearby and that the victim identified him as the attacker.

Pittman is being held on $250,000 bond pending a hearing May 19 at district court in Skokie.
