Evanston police were called to deal with an attempted robbery at a Shell station on Chicago Avenue, but ended up arresting the subject and charging him with minor criminal damage at the nearby Jewel-Osco store. This among the stories in today’s crime bulletin from Evanston police.

ROBBERY

1200 Chicago

An alleged attempt to rob the clerk at the Shell gas station in the 1200 block of Chicago Avenue at about 10:30 p.m. yesterday ended with the arrest of 28-year-old Anthony J. Verthein of 13811 S. Western Ave., Blue Island, at the nearby Jewel-Osco grocery store and charging him with criminal damage at the store.

THEFT

800 Noyes

Cigarettes were stolen from a convenience store in the 800 block of Noyes Street at 8:44 a.m. yesterday.

2600 Colfax

A pink Jamis bicycle was stolen from a bike rack at Lincolnwood Elementary School in the 2600 block of Colfax Street between 9 a.m. Friday and noon yesterday.

Incidents listed appear among the official reports of the Evanston Police Department. An arrest does not constitute an assumption of guilt, which can only be determined by a court of law. Court appearances take place in Cook County 2nd District Court in Skokie.
