Sophomore Eli Otting went three for three with a home run and Charlie Binford, Matt Munro, and Jack Anderson provided solid pitching as the Evanston Varsity baseball team beat visiting New Trier 4-2 Tuesday afternoon.
Binford started and pitched a four-and-a-third innings giving up eight hits but only one run. Matt Munro then retired one batter on one pitch. Then the rest of the game was left to Jack Anderson who struck out three to get the save.
Evanston pitchers were helped with two outstanding catches by centerfielder Evan Binford which saved multiple runs.
New Trier got on the board 1-0 in the first but the Kits took the lead 2-1 in the fourth with an RBI single from Julian Gonzalez and a bases loaded walk from Alex Vergara.
Otting then provided another run in the fifth with a long home run over the Blue Monster in left field. In the sixth, the Kits added a valuable insurance run with an RBI single by Jeremias Delgado.
The Trevians got two baserunners with no outs in the top of the seventh, and one of those runners eventually scored, but Anderson was able to get three straight ground outs to end the game.
The win is the Kits second in a row and moves their overall record to 14-14 and 5-6 in the CSL. They play again today at home against Waukegan before a rematch with New Trier on Thursday.
