Junior Miles Shatkin tossed a complete game no-hitter in an 11-1 slaughter of Amalie from the Virgin Islands Tuesday in the Evanston Wildkits second game of a spring-break road trip to Florida.
Shatkin, in his first Varsity start, got stronger as the game went along and ended up with only one walk and no earned runs. He struck out four batters.
The Kits jumped to an early 3-0 lead in the first inning on a deep double to right field by Connor Hackett and a single by Jeremias Delgado. Delgado was three for three on the day with four runs batted in. Evanston added four more runs in the second and then ended the game with four in the seventh. Kevin Kleschen (two for two) ended the game with an RBI single to right field.
Evanston won its pool in the Spring Classic Orlando tourney and will face the winner of another pool today at 4 p.m. at Sanford Stadium in Sanford, Fla. Evanston moves its record to 7-4 on the year.
