About 30 people turned out this morning in Evanston for a Torch Run fundraiser for Special Olympics organized by the Evanston Police Department.

The annual event, scheduled to get underway at 10 a.m., was delayed — as it has been in prior years — by about 90 minutes because other teams relaying the torch from Waukegan to Wilmette took longer than anticipated to complete their segments of the journey.

But once the Evanston runners, and bikers, were on their way they made pretty good time to their destination — Evanston Police Headquarters.
